A SPECIAL Chris-tmas cheer went up at The Club at Mapledurham last Saturday.

Gifted-golfer Chris Rogers enjoyed a tremendous round, following up an eagle at the fifth hole with a hole-in-one at the next.

He was competing in the Christmas fun day Texas scramble along with 91 club colleagues, all dressed in festive-season attire.

Playing with him were wife Sue, Karen Bridges and Carina Gundy and they were also the winning team.

With a combined handicap of 59, they recorded three birdies and 12 pars to take finish with an impressive nett score of 56.5.

But it was close, as runners-up with a nett 57 were Alex Luxon, Darren Barkey, Tim Lawrence and Tim Mitchell.

Third place went to Julie Casey, Stephen Casey, Debbie Harris and Andrew Thompson with a nett 58.

Nearest the pins were won by:Roger Bevan on the 2nd hole, Chris Rogers on the 6th, Karen Bridges on the 8th, Tim Lawrence 14th and Nigel Hurlstone 18th.

The longest drives were won by David Mehigan on the 3rd and Eliza O’Niell on the 4th.

The course was filled with golfers in Christmas jumpers, tinsel and hats, while Irene Manson wore a brussel-sprout tiara. Outstanding Santa costumes were worn by men’s captain James Newport, vice-captain Frank O’Niell and Sue Rogers.

Following the competition a raffle was held with the proceeds going to the club’s greenkeepers headed by Paul Reeve. This was in appreciation of all their hard work throughout the year to keep the course in excellent condition.

Caversham Heath

ONLY one point separated the top five in the Turkey Trot, played off one-10th handicap at Caversham Heath on Saturday.

Gareth Ford (11hcp) and Darren Bonney (4hcp) took top place on countback from Christopher Searle (12hcp) and Paul Lobban (13hcp).

Third place went to David Holloway (10hcp) and Stuart Webb (9hcp), on countback from Neil McAllister (16hcp) and Nigel Barden (14hcp), and Chris Stacey (13hcp) and Andy King (10hcp), all on 41 points.

McAllister and King missed their chance of success after only picking up one point on the last hole.
