READING YMCA were involved in an astonishing Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy tie against Langley at Padworth Lane on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.
The game ended 2-2 after extra-time with the penalty shoot-out turning into a marathon, finally ending with a 19-18 win for the visitors, who will be away to Winslow United in the quarter-finals.
Also through to the last eight are Marlow United, who edged home 3-2 against Aston Clinton with Liam Bushay scoring twice in the first half and Andy Nicol in the 65th minute. They will be away to Buckingham Athletic on February 3.
Premier Division rivals Mortimer had to work extra hard in their Maidenhead Norfolkians Senior Cup clash with Slough Heating. After James Croft had netted early in each half for the hosts, the tie finished 2-2, with Mortimer going on to win 3-0 on penalties.
Highmoor Ibis United triumphed 4-2 at Rotherfield in the Berkshire Trophy Senior Cup to set up a home quarter-final tie with Cookham Dean. Leroy Clark (2), Courtney Lawrence and Shane Small-King were on target with Mark Sumner and Joe Newman replying for the Bishopswood-based club.
In the Premier Division, Alex Sergent bagged five goals as Westwood United thumped pointless Taplow United 8-0, with Jack Sergent, Ross Storrar and Matt Badger also finding the net.
Action between Burghfield (blue) and Finchampstead in Division One last weekend.
After conceding an early Matt Booth goal, Wright & Unity Sports eased home 5-1 against Wokingham & Emmbrook Reserves to move into second place in the table, while Woodley United Reserves went down 3-2 at Wraysbury Village with Harrison Moore’s effort and an own goal coming as a consolation.
The fixture between Newbury and Woodcote Stoke Row was called off after the appointed referee had to pull out at short notice due to a family matter.
Like their senior team, Reading YMCA Rapids side were also involved in a high-scoring tie, losing 7-6 at Brimpton Athletic in the Maidenhead Norfolkians Junior Cup.
Division One leaders Burghfield extended their unbeaten run to eight games by winning 3-0 at Finchampstead despite playing for much of the game with 10 men.
Jordan Greaves was shown a straight red card inside the opening 15 minutes, but they overcame that setback by taking a 20th-minute lead through Kieran Farmer and he struck again just before half-time. Adam Taylor completed the scoring with a late third goal.
Burghfield (blue) defeated Finchampstead 3-0 to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches.
Imaan Lions also remain undefeated following a 3-2 victory at Maidenhead Magpies thanks to goals from Aqeel Butt, Isaac Sedu and Aleeq Butt.
Cookham Dean Reserves drew for the fourth time in six games - they won the other two - when sharing two goals with hosts Frilsham & Yattendon. Austin Chadwick netted for the visitors and Ashley Beckett for Frilsham.
Westwood United Reserves won their first league game of the season by squeezing home at Hurst 2-0, but remain bottom of the table with four points. Matt Evans put them ahead in after 52 minutes with Luke Offley adding the second 10 minutes later.
Eldon Celtic were on the wrong end of a 6-1 scoreline at Richings Park, who move up to third in the table.
In Division Two, leaders South Reading triumphed 3-1 away to Harchester Hawks following goals from Hayden Best, Liam Lewendon and Jordan Sayer, with David Panter scoring for the Laurel Park-based men.
FC Woodley also preserved their unbeaten tag with a 6-2 win over last-placed Hurst Reserves, their goals coming from Steve Campbell (3), Chris Waring (2) and Richard Thomas with Tom Harrison replying for the villagers.
Woodcote Stoke Row Reserves stay one off the bottom after losing 3-1 at home to the third club, Mortimer Reserves, their solitary goal coming from Joe Price on his debut. Keeper Andy Symonds pulled off a terrific double save before seeing team-mate Adam Burgess turn the ball into his own to bring the scores level. Mortimer took the lead on 65 minutes and shortly afterwards put the issue beyond doubt.
AFC Corinthians outscored Marlow United Reserves by a 4-2 margin, Lewis Draper and Kieran Hawkins netting for the losers.
Goals from Bart Pachulsk (2), Jacek Bojda and Dawid Nagoda earned White Eagles a 4-3 win over Berks County Reserves, for whom Richard Cumner, Sam Clark and Connor Banks (pen) were on target.
Finchampstead (red) lost 3-0 to Burghfield in Division One.
Wargrave stay top of Division Three despite being held to a 4-4 draw at home by Hurst A, whose goals came from Paul Nowell (2), Peter Jones and substitute Charlie Scope.
Level on points with the leaders are Maidenhead Town Reserves who hammered Highmoor Ibis Athletic 7-0, their seventh defeat in as many league games. Paul Lyall led the goal romp with a hat-trick, substitute Liam Field added a brace with Matt Shave and Steve Newell completing the scoring.
Goals from Chris Genegasamy (2), Darren Barton-Taylor and James Gregory, who struck just before the end, saw Braybrooke squeeze home 4-3 against Henley Town Reserves.
Woodley United A beat Taplow United Reserves 5-1 with Dylan Chaffin bagging a brace, along with a goal apiece from David Reynolds, James Elderton and Muneer Fakih.
Despite scoring first through Tom Purser, Goring United crashed out of the Maidenhead Norfolkians Junior Cup with a 5-1 reverse at Britwell.
But it was a happier day for Goring Reserves in Division Four, as they won 5-2 at home to Farnham Royal Mavericks to go second in the table. Gary Heath netted twice, with Lee Allen, Sam Nicholls and Jon Nicholas adding one apiece.
Taplow United A stay top after defeating Berks County Rovers 3-2, Matt Panton and substitute Jake Wilcock netting for the losers.
Third-placed Twyford & Ruscombe beat Cintra Park Rovers 3-1 to make it five wins out of five, their goals coming from Michael Buckle, Ryan Jansen and Mikey Jones.
Seb Urbansk put White Eagles Reserves ahead against, but 15 minutes later Peter Wareing replied to earn Woodley United B a draw.
Maidenhead Town A won 4-1 to inflict an eighth straight defeat on Harchester Hawks Development.
Kieran North and Cameron Netherwood-Meek found the net for Town before Jack Sharpling came off the bench to score twice in the last 20 minutes.
