JACK Davies and Ethan Bamber, who both played for Berkshire during their double-winning season, have been named in the England Young Lions squad for a winter tour to South Africa.

Henley batman Davies, who has been involved with the county since his Under 9 days, scored an unbeaten century to lead the county to victory in the Unicorns Championship play-off against Lincolnshire at Banbury in August.

It was his first championship appearance, having been unable to play earlier due to his commitments with Middlesex 2nds.

Fast bowler Bamber is also with Middlesex, who have close links with Berkshire following an official tie-up last year.

Another in the England Young Lions 18-man squad is Tom Scriven, who joined Hampshire after impressing in the Berkshire Emerging Player Programme.

The Young Lions will be playing hosts South Africa and Namibia from November 23 to December 12 as they prepare for the Under 19 World Cup in New Zealand starting on January 15.

  • BERKSHIRE performance manager Tom Lambert has selected the players for the 2017-18 Westcoast Berkshire Academy.

Squad: James Woodford, Tommie Predgen (both Finchampstead), Sheriyar Ahmed, James Bird (both Falkland), Hamza Arif (Slough), James Rogers, Jarryad Wallace (both Datchet), Archie Carter, Jack Winterbottom (both Wokingham), Will Legg, Michael Williams (both Henley).

  • BERKSHIRE and Henley fast bowler Harry Jordan has signed for the Gloucestershire Academy, who have also extended the development contract of former Berkshire and Finchampstead paceman Callum Gregory.
