WARGRAVE defeated Gerrards Cross by 96 runs to stay second in the Home Counties Premier League Division 2 standings, just one point behind Oxford, the side they visit next Saturday.
They posted a very useful 58-over total of 296-8, with Andrew MacEwen making a run-a-ball 92, skipper Rhys Lewis 63, and Jayden Barson 47, with Toby Fleming taking 5-94.
There was also a fifer for Wargrave skipper Mark Firth (5-65) who were dismissed for 200 in the 47th over, with Ben Spencer contributing 71 before being the last man out, caught by Barson off the bowling of Lewis (1-12) after hitting the previous two deliveries for six.
Finchampstead beat Wokingham by five wickets to return to the top of Division One last Saturday and on Sunday, they were crowned the league's T20 champions after defeating host club Oxford Downs by 16 runs in the final.
The flying Finches dismissed visitors Wokingham for 176 and then recovered from early shocks to reach their target in the 31st over, as they extended their unbeaten Division One record to 12 games.
For the Oaks, their third defeat in a row leaves them third from bottom of the table on 130 points with Henley (117) and Great Brickhill (83) below them. Slough, on 133 points, are also hovering close to the relegation zone, with all teams having six games still to play.
* In the Thames Valley League, Reading had the better of a draw with Cove at Sonning Lane. They posted 210-9 with Praful Waghela hitting an outstanding 133 not out off 160 balls. Arjun Srinivasan, with 30, and Salman Khalid, with 15, were the only other batters to reach double figures. Khalid followed up by taking 4-29 in Cove's 159-8.
Reading, on 159 points, and Sonning, with 137, have only Marlow (133) below them in the standings.
The Oaks knocked them off in 46 overs, with Harry Warwick making 80 not out off 87 balls and Samarjeet Singh 59, the pair lifting the total from 54-4 to 191-5. Skipper Mike O'Donoghue took three wickets in four deliveries, finishing with 3-45.
The Sadlers End side stay second in the placings, five points behind Beaconsfield 1sts, who were two-wicket winners over Sonning.
Sonning lost to table-topping Beaconsfield by two wickets. Their innings of 164 owed much to Muhammad Ayub and Mo Zahid, the pair scoring 82 and 32 respectively.
Damario Goodman took 4-47 as Sonning made their hosts work extra hard to win the match at 165-8 after 41 overs.
Binfield drew at Theale and Tilehurst in their top-of-the-table clash in Division 2A, but still lead the way by 17 points.
An opening stand of 103 by Rehan Akram (62) and Waqas Ahmed (49), followed by 88 from Baber Hussain saw T&T post a useful 288-9 in 52 overs; Tom Williams taking 4-62. Binfield reached 170-5 in reply, James Muir making 74 not out and Mac Dsouza 42.
Third-placed Wargrave 2nd lost ground on the top two sides when losing by five wickets at White Waltham. They collapsed from 41-2 to 78 all out, with Sreekanth Surendran taking 5-5 and Noah Edwards 5-11.
The hosts reached their target at 81-5 in the 19th over, Dhruv Purushotham taking 3-34.
Sulhamstead & Ufton stay bottom of the table despite beating Peppard Stoke Row by 56 runs. An opening stand of 105 by Mubarak Tahir (58) and Shevin Hewavitharana (46) laid the foundations of the home side's innings of 256-8, which also included 56 from Stuart Hornby. Rehaan Samdani then took 5-69 and Hornby 3-34 as PSR were dismissed for 200, Jason Vaughan-Davies top-scoring with 54.
Sulhamstead remain 14 points behind second-from-bottom Purley, who also had a welcome win last Saturday, by inflicting a 90-run defeat on Kidmore End, the side immediately above them in the standings.
The Goosecroft men were dismissed for 163 (Dan Fox 49) before skittling out the visitors for just 73 (Dan Middleton 42) with Sam Seville taking 6-35 and Sam Jugg 4-18.
Division 3A leaders Bracknell United skittled out Boyne Hill 2nds for 178 with six wickets being shared by Mayank Kedia (3-22) and Atif Nasim (3-36) before going on to win by nine wickets, Daud Sardar smashing 114 not out off 62 balls with nine maximums and eight fours, and Manpreet Singh, 51 not out, the pair lifting the score from 31-1 to 181, with victory coming in the 24th over.
Shinfield rolled over Kidmore End 2nd for 110 with Satish Patil taking 5-15 and went on to win by six wickets, Devesh Gauchwal remaining unbeaten on 64.
Goring (165-2; Walsh 62no, Logan 59no) beat Eversley 2nd (163; Martin 48; Davies 5-37) by eight wickets, while Theale and Tilehurst 2nd scored 207-9 (Nadeem 101no) and lost to Newbury (208-7) by three wickets.
