WARGRAVE went down by five wickets at Gerrards Cross in the Home Counties Premier League Division 2.
They lost seven wickets for 96, of which skipper Rhys Lewis made 35, but Toby Greatwood improved their position with an explosive innings of 78, which came off 80 balls and contained seven sixes and five fours. He was the last man out with the total on 195.
Gerrards skipper Teddy Fleming, who has played in Australia and New Zealand in the last two years, returned outstanding figures of 10-5-16-6.
Wargrave dismissed half the home batters for 123 and, with 31 overs gone, the game hung in the balance. However, it all changed as the visitors' attack came in for some heavy punishment from Henry Walsh.
The opener took his side to victory at 197-5 in the 44th over, remaining unbeaten on 111, which contained six maximums and 10 fours.
This coming Saturday, Wargrave are home to Oxford, who, like Gerrards Cross, have won all three games so far this season.
In the Premier Division, Finchampstead eased to a 119-run win over Wokingham, posting a 50-over total of 275-7. Ben Salter made 87 and Ethan Ramsey 68, the pair adding 129 for the fifth wicket before losing their wickets to former Finchampstead player Max Uttley (3-57).
The Oaks were bowled out for 156 (Imran Malik 49) with Liam Dudding taking 3-21 and James Woodford 3-22.
In the Thames Valley League, Sonning's Damario Goodman was in tremendous form with the ball, returning outstanding figures of 7-20, but he still ended up on the losing side. They dismissed Beaconsfield for just 93 in 29 overs at King George's Field, only to be shot out themselves for a paltry 80 in 23.3 overs. Mo Zahid (24) was the only home batter to reach double figures before becoming one of Toby Slater's five victims.
Reading crashed to a nine-wicket defeat at Cove after being dismissed for 148, the runs mainly coming from Pav Chima, with 60, and Praful Waghela with 40.
Cove coasted to their modest target in 30 overs, Max Martin making 63 and skipper Dubs Wood 52, the wicket falling at 93.
Theale and Tilehurst beat Binfield by 100 runs after the visitors had posted a 50-over total of 333-5. Waqas Ahmed retired after making 133 off 137 balls, having spent 208 minutes at the crease. He and Jihan Mishra (75) put on 172 in 31.2 overs for the first wicket. Binfield were dismissed for 233, Wyn Lamprecht contributing 54 and Chris Morgan 45.
Sam Charles and Sagar Chand both made centuries as Shinfield posted an outstanding 394-9 off 45 overs before going on to restrict Kidmore End to 244-8.
Wicketkeeper Charles smashed 118 off 104 balls, while Chand only needed 64 balls to reach 113, hitting seven sixes and 10 fours. They added 205 for the fifth wicket. Roan Coetzee (55no) and Tom Sheldon (50) were Kidmore's top scorers.
