Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson was left bemused by Reading's 2-1 victory at London Road on Saturday, believing his side were 'absolutely by far the superior team.'
Harvey Knibbs scored a first-half brace to put the Royals ahead at the break. Unable to break down the resolute visitors, Emmanuel Fernandez halved the deficit deep in stoppage time but Ruben Selles side held on to win.
An entertaining clash full of missed opportunities for both sides, it represented just a second away victory of the campaign for the upwardly mobile Royals.
Speaking to the club media after the match, Ferguson was left frustrated that his side could not turn their perceived dominance into victory.
"I thought we were very good," the experienced boss started. "They’re decent and we’ve been absolutely by far the superior team, but the game is won by how many goals you score and they’re two up by half-time- I don’t know how, but they are.
"I was still confident at half-time. I thought we just needed the next goal- they’re not used to winning away from home. If we had gotten it five minutes earlier, I think we’d have gotten something. Even when we scored, I thought we’d get something.
"We’re just too inconsistent and that’s over a third of the season. It simply has to change and if it doesn’t then we’ll just end up around the middle of the league."
Usually an unhappy hunting ground for Reading, it was a first victory in Peterborough since 2001.
