Reading legend Jem Karacan has warned supporters that all current players are now 'in the shop window' after Rob Couhig's takeover collapsed last week.
Karacan played over 150 times for the Royals after breaking through the Academy, famously a key part of the 2011/12 Championship-winning team.
Injuries hampered his career and the former Turkey youth midfielder is now an agent.
Based in the North-West, the 32-year-old joined BBC Radio Berkshire's coverage of Saturday's 5-2 defeat at one of his former teams- Bolton Wanderers- and spoke of the impact last week's demoralising news will have on the squad.
"It’s probably going to get to a point where it really affects them," he said. "The job is to go out and perform and keep those things away from you, but I think with what we’ve seen in the last couple of months and it looking like it’s going to get done, a lot of the players were looking forward to it being finished and moving on and getting their futures sorted but they need to just knuckle down, play well and go from there.
"As long as this drags on, they’re in the shop window. They need to be thinking to go out, put on good performances and that in turn helps them but fundamentally helps the club push up the league."
Royals striker Sam Smith, who scored at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Saturday, has previously spoken of being 'unsettled' during the summer transfer window and the Royals were only able to make one addition- Chem Campbell to replace Femi Azeez.
