Popular former Reading coach Nigel Gibbs has moved to Greek Super League side Asteras Tripolis, working alongside Chelsea legend Claude Makelele.
Gibbs- a playing legend of almost 500 appearances at Watford- moved to Reading in 2006 and spent six years working under Steve Coppell, Brendan Rodgers and most notably Brian McDermott.
McDermott's right-hand-man as the club won promotion to the Premier League in 2012, the 58-year-old also worked alongside the iconic boss at Leeds United and returned to Reading in 2018 with Paul Clement for a less successful stint.
A long-time coach at Tottenham Hotspur, working in both the Academy and with the first-team, Gibbs has opted for a new challenge alongside France legend Makelele in Greece.
Speaking to the Watford Observer, the former England Under-21 international said: "It’s been a bit of a whirlwind week.
“I got the offer last Monday, said yes on Tuesday, left Spurs on Wednesday and got a flight out to Greece on Friday!
“I’m starting work today. It’s a really exciting challenge.”
51-year-old Makelele left a coaching role with Chelsea last year and only has experience as a head coach with Bastia and Eupen.
