Former Reading midfielder Sandro Wieser witnessed history first-hand last night, but the Liechtenstein international was on the wrong side as San Marino won their first match for 20 years.
31-year-old Wieser spent two years with the Royals between 2016 and 2018 but failed to make an appearance in the first team, although he did feature in the Under-21s' EFL Trophy run during the 2016/17 campaign.
A combative midfielder who was infamously taken to court for a near-career-ending injury on Ivory Coast international Giles Yapi Yapo, the experienced midfielder has since played in Switzerland and Belgium.
He will now also be remembered for being a part of a Liechtenstein who gave San Marino their first victory since 2004, a 1-0 win in the UEFA Nations League -League D opener.
The world's lowest-ranked team were on the longest winless run in football, stretching back 140 games to when they won a friendly back in 2004 against Liechtenstein.
19-year-old Nicko Sensoli did the damage with 53 minutes on the clock, with the hosts nervously clinging on for the remaining 40 minutes.
Wieser played the entire game at the Stadio Olimpico di Serravalle, the scene of a 10-0 win for England in 2021.
