Sunday league outfit Caversham United have signed former Reading striker Dave Kitson.

Kitson, a Royals legend who powered the club into the top-flight for the first-ever time and scored the club's first-ever Premier League goal, has coached Caversham United’s men’s and women’s squads and held a Q&A for the club at Phantom Brewing Co in Reading in January.

He has also been coaching the Reading Blue Coat School 1st XI which has reached a national final for the first time in the school’s history.

Looking for a directors' role of a football team in Berkshire, the former Cambridge United and Stoke City forward has resigned as chairman of Arlesey United.

Kitson is due to make his Caversham United debut on Sunday League Day - a nationwide event celebrating Sunday League football.

Details for Dave Kitson’s Caversham United debut as follows:
- Sunday March 24, 10:30 KO
- Venue: Mapledurham Playing Fields
- vs Rose & Thistle
- Reading & District Sunday League Division 2

As Dave’s debut falls on #SundayLeagueDay, Caversham United will be making it an occasion to remember.

Both of their men’s teams are playing at Mapledurham that morning and the club are looking to arrange a caterer for pitch-side food and drinks - as well as a match day programme.

Caversham United are encouraging a crowd to make a donation of a notional ‘ticket price’ to Prostate Cancer UK in line with Sunday League Day and the club’s ’Balls To Cancer’ sponsorship.
