Reading boss Ruben Selles is hoping to have Sam Smith and Andy Yiadom back in the matchday squad for Saturday's trip to Portsmouth after missing the midweek draw with Fleetwood Town.

Both regulars started and played the majority of last week's 2-0 win over Charlton Athletic, but were unexpectedly missing for Tuesday's 1-1 draw at Highbury.

Jeriel Dorsett took the place of Yiadom but was taken off within 10 minutes after sustaining an injury of his own, replaced by youngster Kelvin Abrefa.

Speaking after the game in Lancashire, Selles was hopeful that he would have Smith and Yiadom back.

Reading Chronicle:

"Andy Yiadom and Sam Smith, both after the last game had some fatigue and risk of injury," he revealed. "For Yids, it was his knee. After a couple of games, he needs to rest a little bit. We were not able to use them for today but hopefully, that rest is enough for them to be with us on Saturday. Mobility was not quite there but it was not a big thing, we expect the inflammation for Sam and Yids to go down and be ready for the weekend."

Dorsett, a breakout season for the Academy graduate, has excelled at left-back.

However, it remains to be seen just how serious his injury was.

"It was a heavy contact in the ankle," Selles confirmed. "I just asked the doctors, and they told me it was really early to evaluate and they will evaluate tomorrow. Let’s see what the consequence of that action. It looks like nothing is broken but we need to be sure tomorrow."
