Reading Head of Sport Science, Josh Bowen, has been given a two-match touchline ban and a £500 fine for 'abusive' language directed at an official against Port Vale.

Son of Director of Football Operations, Mark Bowen, Josh is regularly seen on the field for warm-ups and warm-downs with the squad.

He was sent off and charged by the Football Association earlier this month following his actions on Saturday, January 13.

An FA Spokesperson has since commented: "Reading FC's Head of Sports Science, Josh Bowen, has been banned from the touchline for two matches and fined £500 for a breach of FA Rule E3.1 following their EFL League One fixture against Port Vale FC on Saturday 13 January 2024.

"It was alleged that following the suspension of play, his language was abusive and/or insulting towards a match official, leading to his dismissal. It was further alleged that following his dismissal, he acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official."

The match was halted after just 16 minutes against the Valliants as thousands of supporters protested against owner Dai Yongge on the field of play.

After waiting for almost an hour, the decision was made to abandon the fixture, with Andy Crosby's men returning for the rematch on Tuesday, February 20.
