Reading legends Dave Kitson, Glen Little and Leroy Lita made a dream come true for Royals fan Christina Sweeney on Sunday.

It is nearly 20 years since Sweeney was involved in a serious car accident which left her in a coma for 13 weeks, during which she was pronounced dead on three separate occasions.

After waking from her coma, her brother - a Portsmouth fan - tried convincing her that she was a Pompey fan too, but Sweeney knew instantly that she was a Reading fan, helped in part by remembering flame-haired striker Dave Kitson.

Sweeney finally got to meet two of her Royals heroes on Sunday when she attended "An evening with Glen Little" at Blue Collar Corner in Reading, with Kitson chatting to Little about their time at the club, including the record-breaking 106 points season.

And it got even better for the loyal Royal when Little called Lita - Sweeney's favourite Royal - on Face Time to have a chat with her.

Sweeney, who now lives in Fareham but is still a Reading season ticket holder, attended Sunday's event with her father Danny Corp, who is also a Reading season ticket holder.

She said: "I never forgot what a loyal Royal I was. I remembered Dave Kitson after I woke up from my coma and I remembered that Leroy Lita was my favourite player.

"I've forgotten about 17 years of my life, but I remember Dave from before my accident in 2004 because of his talent and his red hair. I remember waiting to hear his name when the team was announced at a game."

Sweeney believes Reading fans who are worried about the current state of their club can take inspiration from her story.

She added: "I want to send my best luck and belief to the team, they just have to stay strong. I was pronounced dead three times. Imagine if my family had given up on me. I've got all my faith in the team and praying we can survive."

Asked what it was like to meet two of her heroes and speak to her favourite player, she said: "I'm so happy. I loved it, it meant so much and I definitely won’t forget it!"
