Reading favourite Nelson Abbey has moved to Greek giants Olympiacos.

The 20-year-old, born and bred in the town, rose through the ranks and became a standout performer this season despite struggling at the wrong end of the League One table.

Captaining the club on occasions this campaign, he joins the 47-time Greek champions after making 31 appearances for his boyhood club.

Currently sat fourth in the Greek Super League, 17 points behind leaders PAOK, he could make his European debut with the club hosting Ferencváros in the Conference League play-off round.

This news comes a week after fellow Academy graduate Tom Holmes secured his move to Premier League Luton Town, another club interested in taking the centre-back away from Berkshire.

However, Holmes has returned to Reading on loan until the end of the season.

It remains to be seen if Abbey is the final exit from the club, with the transfer window slamming shut next week.
