Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has compared Reading supporters who invaded the pitch against Port Vale to Just Stop Oil campaigners.

Jordan, now a well-respected voice on all things football, was strongly against the actions of thousands of Royals supporters as the match was abandoned following protests against owner Dai Yongge.

The club have been given a suspended three-point deduction and will replay the Valliant's in full next month, as well as receiving publicity from around the world for the plight of the club and supporters.

Speaking to Reading fan Erik Orrgarde on TalkSPORT, the businessman was critical of the supporters' decision to invade the pitch but did appreciate the impact it has since made on the fight.

"It’s like the Just Stop Oil guys," he started. "If you say to them ‘stop protesting’ then they will not get the attention. The reason why it has been covered so comprehensively is because ‘we invaded the pitch.’ I don’t like them invading the pitch, but the tactics got them the attention, so the ends justify the means. He is not going to rule that out any more than Just Stop Oil guys saying ‘we’re going to stop blocking the M25.’ Maybe if the media didn’t turn up and cover it then they wouldn’t do it anymore?"

Just Stop Oil are an environmental activist group that polarises the population with their use of civil resistance and traffic obstruction while calling for the government to commit to ending new fossil fuel production.

One thing supporters and Mr Jordan can all agree on is his assessment of owner Yongge.

"I think they’ve run the club very poorly and have put the football club in a very difficult position. They have put so much money into the football club and been so profligate and left it laden with debt that it makes it difficult for anyone to want to purchase it."
