In August, it will be 18 years since Reading's first ever game in the Premier League.

It would have been difficult to imagine back then how bad things would get all these years later – and, despite Tuesday's win against promotion chasing Derby, Reading are still in the relegation zone, four points from safety.

So, for a second Sunday in a row, it was great to look back on happier times - and this time, it was me putting the questions to my former strike partner Leroy Lita at Blue Collar Corner.

There were a few revelations from Leroy, including the time he lost control of his Hummer and had to escape through the sunroof. There was also a story about an infamous event with a teddy bear, which I can't possibly describe here!

Leroy has always been his own man. He talked about the passion of playing and scoring for Reading - and he was a joy to play with. Leroy was asked by a Reading fan where he ranked himself compared to Kevin Doyle, Shane Long and yours truly during his time at the club. He replied that he thought he was the best finisher of the four of us and I couldn't really disagree with that.

We talked about the 106 points record. I think Leicester have a chance of eclipsing us this season, but Leroy doesn't think so. His theory is that they have already lost four games this season and that 40 points from 18 games is a tall order even for Leicester if they are going to match our points total.

Leroy scored the winner on that famous day back in August 2006, as we came from 2-0 down to beat Middlesbrough 3-2 in the club's first Premier League game.

There were mixed emotions for me in that game, as I scored Reading's first ever top flight goal then went off injured and missed much of our first season in the Premier League – and Glen Little, who played a key role in getting us to the Premier League, wasn't even part of the squad that day after picking up an injury in pre-season.

Leroy and I agree that Glen was one of the best players we both played with at Reading. He wasn't what you'd describe as quick and didn't even look like a winger but, if memory serves me correctly, I think he finished the 106 season with more assists than anyone else in the Championship. He was so good that he even had nicknames for his crosses.

I will get to ask Blakey about that season on Sunday at Blue Collar Corner.

It's one thing looking back but, in terms of the present, I'm on the side of all Reading fans who want to see a new owner take over and give us a glimmer of hope that we can get the club we love pointing in the right direction again.

Ruben Selles is doing the best he can in dire circumstances and a 1-0 win against Derby at least provides some encouragement in these difficult times for Reading FC.

The team of coaches at Reading's academy continue to do some brilliant work in horrendous circumstances. I'm led to believe that around 25 Reading academy coaches have either lost their jobs in recent weeks or will do soon. That's all the more reason why we need someone to come in as quickly as possible, steady the ship and give us belief that there will be happier days ahead.

I've seen first hand how good some of Reading's academy players are. I've also seen enough during the one-to-one and group coaching sessions that James Harper and I are doing to know that there is some fantastic talent in the Reading area.

How many of the current crop of Reading FC Academy players or even some of the players James and I are coaching have a genuine chance of making it all the way to the first team remains to be seen, but there are plenty of talented players right here on our doorstep.

A lot can happen over the next few years, but we have coached a few boys and girls that we both think have a chance of making a name for themselves as players.

It will be half term before we know it and James and I still have some availability for one-to-one and group coaching sessions during half term week.

Our small group sessions are proving popular, so if any parents out there want their son or daughter to be coached with one or two friends by me, James or one of our other coaches in half term week, you can get in touch via the website: www.davekitsonacademy.com
