Reading are 'still waiting' on a decision from defender Nelson Abbey on his future after being subject to interest from Luton Town.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season, even captaining his boyhood club on occasion this season, and has naturally attracted interest.

Fellow defender Tom Holmes officially joined the Hatters yesterday, but their pursuit of Abbey is less straightforward with foreign interest attracting the England Under-20 international.

Speaking to boss Ruben Selles ahead of a trip to Wigan Athletic, the Spaniard said: "I had a conversation with him after the club accepted bids for him and for Tom. That didn’t move further in terms of Nelson making a decision. I will count on him to play until something else happens."

Director of Football Operations, Mark Bowen, added: "A fee was agreed with Luton, but we are still waiting on the player to decide and for things to progress, if they progress."

Holmes has returned to Berkshire on loan until the end of the season.
