Former Reading player and coach, John O'Shea, has departed Birmingham City after just three months.

The Manchester United legend rounded off his playing career in Berkshire and spent two years as a coach with the Royals.

Given a guard of honour for his final professional appearance, the centre-back was a highly-regarded member of the backroom staff until 2021.

He spent the 2022/23 season with Stoke City, completing his UEFA Pro License, before working on the international scene with Republic of Ireland

Moving to St Andrew's from Staffordshire, the Premier League stalwart followed former Red Devils teammate Wayne Rooney to the Blues, along with England centurion Ashley Cole.

Rooney lasted just 15 matches, and two wins, before being sacked in the Second City, with O'Shea following just a few days later.

Birmingham City, who have appointed veteran Tony Mowbray as new manager, said: "The Board would like to place on record their sincere thanks to John for all of his efforts."
