Reading manager Ruben Selles has had a fresh injury boost in defence as youngster Kelvin Abrefa featured for the Under-21s' 2-1 win over Leicester City on Monday.

The 20-year-old has risen through the ranks in Berkshire and made 13 first-team appearances, scoring the winner in the FA Cup against Watford last season.

He started twice for the Royals this season in the early stages, during the EFL Trophy and EFL Cup, before sustaining a serious injury.

Monday night's win, which included many first-team regulars due to a lack of match time during Saturday's abandoned game with Port Vale.

Providing cover at right-back, for Andy Yiadom, it allows Amadou Mbengue to be utilised in midfielder or centre-back- especially prevalent due to the potential for departures for Nelson Abbey and Tom Holmes.

Reading return to league action on Saturday at Wigan Athletic.
