Reading boss Ruben Selles sat down with the popular Training Ground Guru to discuss his first six months in charge, talking about the 'surprises' since taking over.
The former Saints boss took over in July and has since endured points deductions, transfer embargoes, fire sales and unregistered players.
Despite this, the club remain in touching distance of survival in League One, while an EFL charge remains hanging over the club for failing to pay HMRC on multiple occasions.
"Unfortunately, from the very beginning, it has been tough for us in the situation around the team," he said. "We started the season with nine professional players, two were injured and two were goalkeepers so a pretty difficult situation. From that, we just promoted some of the young lads from the Under-21s and kept them working with us.
"As a product of that, we have an established team now, very young and energetic and that knows how to win football matches in the category. That is the best bit, to see the boys growing in terms of competitiveness and spirit. Unfortunately, I cannot control the things around us, there have been a lot of surprises for us in terms of transferring players and points deductions, but we have learnt how to cope with those things and manage things hour-by-hour in the club.
"The instability around us, but the players and technical staff around us are trying their best to keep the team in the league and create an environment where you can go through every situation."
Reading are yet to know the end result of Saturday's pitch invasion, with points deductions and fines among the possible punishments.
