Reading boss Ruben Selles was left 'disappointed' that he was unable to provide any fresh hope to supporters over the ownership.

Chinese businessman Dai Yongge put the club up for sale in September after seven years of turmoil, with the club hit with point deductions, transfer embargoes and ultimately, relegation to League One.

Sell Before We Dai, a fan action group, were set up with the intention of pressuring the club into a sale.

Before Christmas, one party were close to agreeing exclusivity with Yongge, but this has not come to fruition and the club are no closer to finding a buyer.

Speaking after an exit in the EFL Trophy, Selles said: "I spoke a little bit about everything in the last couple of days but there is no news that I can communicate. There is nothing. He told me that there is not any news that he could communicate to me.

"I am disappointed because we just had a game and lost. We can talk about what happened on the pitch and we have these kinds of conversations pre-match and post-match every single time. As I told you, we just try to do things day by day. It is all we can do with the situation we have. We are disappointed that we lost two important people for the club, we lost in the Academy, we are having problems for hotels. At the end, I get really tired because I can only affect what happens on the pitch. I am just trying to get the club to a better place. I don’t spend much time thinking about if we will be in a better place if we get a new owner, we are just basically trying to get things done."

Reading are currently in the relegation zone of the third tier, three points adrift of safety.
