Reading boss Ruben Selles has confirmed that the team will travel on the day for all away trips as the club cannot afford hotel stays.

The team spent a night in Lincolnshire ahead of last week's 1-1 draw with Lincoln City, but this is to be the final overnight stay for the foreseeable as the club continues to struggle financially.

This includes on Boxing Day, when the side travel to Peterborough United for a 3 pm kick-off.

"We will go in the day and play the game," the manager said ahead of tomorrow's battle with Wigan Athletic. "It is not the best way to prepare for a game, that’s for sure. We don’t want to make it an excuse, it is the situation we are in.

"Ideally, we would go the day before, train late because it’s Christmas Day, and go and have a night over there. We cannot do it so it is what it is. We will go there, put the best team on the pitch and try and compete."

With all of the London trips and local match at Wycombe Wanderers out of the way, long journeys to the likes of Carlisle United, Bolton Wanderers and Barnsley all remain which will see the team set off before the sun has risen.

This news comes the same day as news broke that several staff were to be made redundant, just 48 hours before Christmas.
