Reading boss Ruben Selles has given his verdict to Sam Hutchinson's controversial post-match interview at Shrewsbury Town, in which he questioned the young players following a 3-2 capitulation.

The former Sheffield Wednesday favourite spoke to the independent media and club channel in Shropshire and said: “Some of them aren’t ready, I’ll be honest. Regardless of their talent or whatever it’s a difficult situation to handle."

This has proved controversial among supporters, with some not pleased with the comments.

Selles told the media ahead of Saturday's trip to Wycombe Wanderers that he does not agree the young squad is to blame, and that he has had words with the 32-year-old since.

"First of all, I think Sam Hutchinson is the one who should talk about his words. Second of all, I think we had a conversation with the media boys, and I don’t think it’s the best thing that we did in terms of the club putting the video out, so we need to see our organisation in those moments.

"The third thing is that I have had a conversation with Sam Hutchinson about that and he is not happy with that moment. I agree that it is a difficult moment for the young boys to step in but this is the circumstances we have. I think it is too easy, for anybody, to call the age of the players the problem. We had an experienced team when we conceded two goals in the last minutes so we should be better than that."

Hutchinson is suspended for the weekend's trip to Adam's Park after accumulating five yellow cards.
