Reading boss Ruben Selles was 'very happy' for 20-year-old Charlie Wellens after giving the midfielder his debut in last night's 5-2 win over Arsenal Under-21 in the EFL Trophy.
Wellens, son of Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens, came on for the final 15 minutes in the final group match of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.
Rising through the ranks with Manchester United, Wellens followed fellow midfielder Charlie Savage down to Berkshire over the summer.

A regular for Noel Hunt's Under-21s, the youngster has scored twice in the PL2 to date.
"Charlie joined us three months ago and has been training with us sometimes, especially in the international break," Selles said.Β "The Academy reports are good. We also had a right-back on the bench from the Under-18s that we went to use a couple of times and he has all the attributes we want. Unfortunately, we did not have the space to make his debut, but young players are working hard, and you know we arenβt afraid to give them the opportunities. We are happy for Charlie."
Ashqar Ahmed made the first-team bench for the first time but failed to make an appearance against Mehmet Ali's Young Gunners.
