ANGRY Reading fans have hit out after 'a flare was thrown' during the Royals match against Bristol Rovers.

Almost 3,000 supporters made the journey from Bristol for the first meeting between the sides for 20 years, ending in a 1-1 stalemate at the SCL Stadium.

However, supporters have been left fuming after footage emerged of an individual appearing to throw a flare from the away end of the ground, landing in a block of Reading fans below.

This is the first season in which away supporters have been housed above home fans since the stadium was opened in 1998.

Occurring after former Royal Chris Martin had equalised in the second half, a post on social media shows a sparking object being waved around before being thrown.

The post said: " Getting out a pyro after equalising against bottom of the league is embarrassing, let alone proceeding to throw it at a Reading fan after this video… "

One fan online called the incident 'vile' and called for better security in the stadium.

The Chronicle understands that more than one supporter was arrested.

Both Reading Football Club and Bristol Rovers Football Club have been approached for comment, as have Thames Valley Police.
