Reading legend Steve Sidwell believes Leicester City will NOT break his side's 106-point record after making a great start to life in the Championship.

The 2016 Premier League winners were relegated last season, but have been on fine form since returning to the second tier.

Earning 39 points from their first 15 matches, the Foxes are already nine points clear of third-place Leeds United.

Sidwell was a key cog in Steve Coppell's record-breaking side of 2005/06, winning 106 points on route to the Championship title.

Speaking to former Premier League winner Tim Sherwood, Sidwell believes it will be tough for Enzo Maresca's side.

"That’s some going," the former Chelsea and Fulham midfielder told the No Tippy Tappy Podcast. "We lost the first game that season, at home to Plymouth, and got booed off the pitch. Then we went on a 36-game (33-game) unbeaten run. Incredible. 10 games we won on the bounce over Christmas, and we were up by March. We had a lot of draws in there but it’s some feat to do that. They could do, but it’s relentless in that league. It can come up and bite you. Winning is a habit, it is momentum. I’m going to say no."

Sherwood himself, who went on to become a top-flight manager with Tottenham and Aston Villa, added: "I think it will be a struggle, but if anyone could do it then Leicester can because they’ve got a squad full of Premier League players."

For comparison, at the same stage of the season, Reading had 34 points after 15 matches and were not even at the top of the league, hitting the summit on matchday 19 and remaining there.
