Reading legend Glen Little has made a comparison between the Royals and his former side Burnley, believing that they are both 'learning on the job.'

Little, a Championship winner with Reading, played over 280 times for the Clarets in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Working for BBC Local Radio covering both sides, the former winger was at the SCL Stadium for Saturday's 3-2 FA Cup win over MK Dons.

Vincent Kompany's Clarets are joint bottom of the Premier League, having romped to the Championship title last season while Reading sit rock-bottom of League One.

Discussing Ruben Selles' start in Berkshire, Little made comparisons between the two clubs where he spent the best part of his long career.

"You can see why we are struggling," he told BBC Radio Berkshire. "There is potential and promise, but it feels like we’re a team learning on the job and that isn't easy when you’re playing 46 games in the slog of League One and you’re bottom of the league. It’s tough.

"I’m having this problem when I’m talking about my other club, Burnley. They’re in a similar situation, the only difference is they’re losing week-in and week-out in the Premier League, we’re doing it in League One. They’ve got a young team and you’re watching them try to find their way in the Premier League, and how do you do that? That is really tough. Vincent Kompany keeps changing, but it’s the same with Ruben Selles.

"It’s hard when you’re losing games. How can you keep picking the same players week in and week out when you’re losing games? How can you have consistent team selection, which is what you want as a manager? You’re chasing your tail. You want to pick the same team, but if you’re losing you can’t. You try something else and keep losing, so you’re chopping and changing."
