Reading are 'considering' Northern Ireland international Craig Cathcart, according to reports.

The 34-year-old has spent the last nine years with Watford, predominantly in the Premier League, playing over 260 times.

Released at the end of the season, the defender played 29 times for the Hornets as they missed out on the play-offs.

Vastly-experienced, with almost 500 professional club appearances, the centre-back has 72 caps for his country and played at the 2016 European Championships.

According to Darren Witcoop of the Mirror, Ipswich Town are 'keen' on Cathcart as well as the Royals.

Yet to officially confirm a summer signing yet, or even confirm a first-team manager, it is thought that Ruben Selles has had his visa accepted and will be taking training during the pre-season trip to Spain.

Former Cambridge United midfielder, Harvey Knibbs, is expected to be the club's first summer arrival having completed a medical on Friday.

It remains to be seen whether former England international Theo Walcott joins the Royals, having spent time training with the club in recent weeks after his release from Southampton.
