Cheltenham Town are pushing hard to take Luke Southwood back to Gloucestershire, according to reports.

Southwood was released by Reading this summer and had spent last season on loan with the Robins, playing almost 50 times under Wade Elliott.

Now a free agent, the 25-year-old is not short on offers, with reports linking him to newly-promoted Ipswich Town in recent days.

However, Jon Palmer of GloucestershireLive, has stated: "Cheltenham Town are making a monumental effort to sign goalkeeper Luke Southwood on a one-year deal following his successful loan spell from Reading last season."

Keeping 16 League One clean sheets, it was the Northern Ireland international's best individual campaign.

The Royals still have promising young keepers Coniah Boyce-Clarke and Jokull Andresson under contract, as well as experienced Australian Dean Bouzanis.
