Newly-relegated Southampton will visit Reading for a pre-season friendly next mothn.

The Saints finished rock-bottom of the Premier League after a 10-year stay in the top-flight, having originally joined the Royals in winning promotion to the league in 2011/12.

Last meeting competitively in April 2013, Reading have won 27 of 88 clashes between the sides dating back as far as 1891.

Appointing former Swansea City manager Russell Martin in recent days, they will be looking for a swift return under the former Norwich City captain.

Open to fans, the match will take place at the SCL Stadium at 3pm on Saturday, July 22.

This is the sixth pre-season fixture announced by the Royals, with matches against Sutton United, Swansea City and AFC Wimbledon also open to fans while clashes with QPR and Bristol City remain behind-closed-doors.

The League One campaign kicks off at home to Peterborough United on Saturday, August 5.
