Reading legend, Lawrie Sanchez, admits he is 'fearing the worst' as the club is hit with another three EFL charges.

Relegated to League One last season, the Royals have now been hit with the possibility of more embargoes and points deductions for failing to pay wages or a HMRC tax bill on time.

Still without a first-team manager after Paul Ince was sacked in April, and with just 13 contracted first-team players, the new campaign starts at home to Peterborough United on August 5.

Speaking to BBC Berkshire at Royal Ascot, the 1988 FA Cup winner said: "I fear the worst. If you have wages not being paid on time when you have a billionaire- you do worry about that. No manager- another worry. All of the people that were in place last year, when it was chaos and they were relegated, are all still there so who knows- anything can happen."

63-year-old Sanchez began his professional career at Elm Park and played over 260 times before going on to spend a decade with Wimbledon.

Enjoying a 20-year managerial career, the former midfielder has been out of the game for almost a decade.
