Former Premier League boss, Ian Holloway, believes Chris Wilder could see his sights higher than a League One job with Reading.
Holloway- a popular figure who has managed in the Premier League with Blackpool- famously admitted to applying for the Royals job in recent seasons during his illustrious 25+ year management career.
It has now been over 60 days since Paul Ince was sacked in Berkshire, the longest the club have ever gone without a permanent manager in place.
Former Sheffield United boss Wilder is the bookies favourite, and has been rumoured to be close for a number of weeks.
However, there is still no movement as pre-season and the opening of the transfer window quickly approaches.
"I can understand why a club the size of Reading, with it’s potential, would be aiming their sights at someone as good as Chris. He took Sheffield United from that very awful division they find themselves down to back up to the Premier League and kept them there. I can fully understand that," the 60-year-old said.
"It really is a lottery how it all goes on; it is quite weird. Every club is different. Running around behind the scenes and trying to find out who has the ear of the king, so to speak. Sometimes the chairman’s best friend can get you in. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was Chris, but I was a little bit shocked because I would think he would see himself a bit higher than League One these days."
