Former Reading goalkeeper Luke Southwood has been called up for the Northern Ireland Euro 2024 qualifiers, but still remains without a club.

The 25-year-old played 30 times for the Royals and impressed last season on loan at Cheltenham Town, playing every minute in League One.

Released last month, the former England youth international will not be short of offers in the Football League after keeping 16 clean sheets.

A popular figure in Berkshire, Southwood endeared himself to supporters during a 2-1 win over Fulham in 2021.

However, he fell out of favour under Paul Ince and did not play after a 4-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in March 2022.

Loan keepers Karl Hein and Orjan Nyland were brought in to see out the end of the campaign as Reading survived in the Championship.

Earning one cap for Northern Ireland so far, he is in the squad to face Denmark and Kazakhstan later in the month.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Conor Hazard are likely to be ahead of Southwood in the pecking order.

Vastly-experienced internationals, such as Jonny Evans and Paddy McNair, are joined by uncapped youngsters Lee Bonis, Callum Marshall and Aaron Donnelly.
