Former Reading coach, Nigel Gibbs, has been drafted in to assist Ryan Mason as first-team coach following the exit of Cristian Stellini.

The Italian, who was interim coach after Antonio Conte departed, exited Spurs following the 6-1 defeat at Newcastle United on Sunday.

Now losing ground in the race for Champions League qualification, former England midfielder Mason has been installed until the end of the campaign.

Still only 31, it is his second time stepping in as boss following a short stint in 2021.

Gibbs- who has spent time in the Academy at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium- has been appointed Acting First Team Coach.A Watford legend with over 400 appearances, the former defender was Brian McDermott's right-hand man in Berkshire.

Spending seven years at the club from 2006 until 2013, and following McDermott to Leeds United, he returned in 2018 as a coach under Paul Clement.

A less successful spell, lasting less than a year, the 57-year-old received a special welcome at last year's legends match to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the club.
