Runaway Championship leaders Burnley could face a possible points deduction or fine as the EFL look set to investigate for the changes made during a 0-0 draw with Reading.
The Clarets, comfortably the best side in the division, have already wrapped up promotion but have missed two chances to seal the title.
Winless in three, dropping points to the Royals, Rotherham United and QPR, relegation rivals Huddersfield Town have reportedly lodged a complaint against the champions-elect.

Making six changes for the trip to the SCL Stadium, Noel Hunt's side battled out a 0-0 draw- ensuring the 106 points record stays in Berkshire.
According to the Sun, the EFL has since written to Burnley, who could be hit with a fine or a points deduction if they are found guilty.
Reading face the Terriers on the final day of the season, although Championship survival is out of their own hands with only six points left to play for.
Hunt's men need to win both of their matches, starting with a home game against fellow relegation outfit Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
Relegation would mark the club's return to the third tier after more than 20 years in the upper echelons of the Football League.
