Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has admitted that he has been thinking about Reading's 106-point record as the season climax approaches.

Already promoted, the Clarets can win the title in Berkshire on Saturday should results go their way.

Potentially earning a maximum of 108 points, they would break the Royals' record set by Steve Coppell's side in 2006.

Speaking ahead of the trip to the SCL Stadium, Kompany told LancashireLive: "We could potentially be the champions at the weekend if things go our way. To say that this could happen with five games to go, I don't think anyone could've hoped for this. It's now for us to set the bar even higher - see if there's something beyond that. Is there something beyond winning the trophy? Can we keep that consistency throughout the next six games? It's funny you should say that [about chasing Reading's record] - because that's where our next trip is.

"We've always got to look forward to something. I have two things in my mind now; we have to make sure we allow the group to be a part of the next six games, because that's how we got here. I think I’m also looking forward, because we’re going to be favourite in most games we’re going to play from now until the end of the season. If you win these games, then go on and win the other games as well - I hope we’re able to do that between now and the end of the season.”

The former Manchester City captain is in his first British managerial role, joined by former teammate and Wales star Craig Bellamy.
