Former Reading star Leroy Lita admitted that Burnley are 'scaring' his record-breaking side as they chase down the Championship icons.

Steve Coppell's Royals side famously picked up an incredible 106 points in 2005/06, a Championship record for points accumulated in a season.

The likes of Newcastle United, Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers have all come close down the years, but all have fallen by the wayside in the business end of the season.

Vincent Kompany's Clarets have lost twice all season and sit on 83 points after 37 matches.

Needing 24 points from a possible 27 remaining to take the record, the former Royals striker admitted he is getting worried.

"Burnley are scaring us now as they have got a chance of breaking the record. They have only lost two games all season haven't they," the 38-year-old told The Mirror.

"We made 106 points. That team was a bunch of young, hungry players that wanted to get to the top. All were of similar age and the dressing room was by far the best I have seen. The determination, desire and hunger in that dressing room was unreal. To achieve that made sense because we had 15 to 20 players that were hungry to do well for themselves, and to get into the top level."

Burnley, who controversially scraped past Paul Ince's side 2-1 at Turf Moore in the first part of the season, are the next team to visit RG2 in April.
