Reading forward Yakou Meite has insisted that the team are 'ready to fight' in the final eight matches as the threat of relegation looms.

One of the longest-serving players in the squad, having arrived in 2016, the Ivorian had regularly hit double figures for goals until a series of injuries hampered his progress.

Now sat on three for the campaign, the forward looks ahead to a return to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City on Saturday- a ground where he scored in 2019.

"Bristol City will be tough. I know it’s always tough to play there and I’ve played there a few times," he said. "We know to expect a tough game, but ultimately - we need points. So we're ready to fight for those points."

Returning from the international break, the previously missing former PSG youngster is hoping to make a return to the side against the Robins.

"This week has been good for us – especially for me because I’ve had time to work. Hopefully I will be fit for this weekend, so it’s a good opportunity for us to regroup and work on things for the next few games.

"I think the break came at a good time for us after a period with a lot of games where we played every three days. Like I said, I think it's been a good time to regroup and to come back stronger."
