Reading boss Paul Ince has confirmed that Tom McIntyre, Liam Moore and Shane Long are all to miss the remainder of the season.

Long, who returned to the club for his second spell in the summer, has scored two goals for the Royals this season.

Pulling up in Wednesday's 2-1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers, the Republic of Ireland international had a scan on Thursday to find out his fate.

The 36-year-old will be joined by defenders McIntyre and Moore, both of whom were substituted during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Hull City.

"I’m devastated," Ince said on former captain Moore. "I’ve seen his process this last two or three months and he was so excited yesterday that he was starting. The last time he was meant to start, he didn’t start. You could see the glint in his eyes and the smile on his face. To see that happen to him was sad. Sad for him and sad for us. I’m not sure of the extent of it, but that’s him for the rest of the season. If you want to look at where we’re at, that’s eight or nine players we haven’t got. I’m sure he’ll bounce back, he has that mentality to bounce back. I’ll be staying in contact with him to make sure he does everything right."

Discussing injuries in general, the former England captain said: "If you think about the players we’ve got out, we’ve lost Tom Mac for the rest of the season I presume, Shane Long is the rest of the season. The boys that are fit are putting a shift in. We are back to the start of the season, looking at the bench and there’s not a lot you can do with it. We’re down to the bare bones. People say it’s the international break and we can get some injuries back, we can’t do that. It’s tough for the boys"
