Reading conceded a second half goal to lose 1-0 to promotion-chasing Sheffield United.

Here are the player ratings.

Joe Lumley, 6: Had little to do other than the goal conceded. Distribution okay on the whole, but always room for improvement.

Andy Yiadom, 6: Back in his position of full-back and looked much better than he has in previous weeks. A few good bursts down the wing, he even had a chance to score late on which he should have probably done better with.

Reading Chronicle:

Tom Holmes, 6: First start for over a month and was certainly not at his tip-top best. However, defensively won his headers and plenty of tackles, passing crisply. Good to have the vice-captain back.

Scott Dann, 6: Decent showing from the veteran, who looks much better when in from the start as opposed to late cameos. Commanded the back line well and had a good battle with Oli McBurnie.

Naby Sarr, 7: Arguably his best performance for the club, certainly in a defensive sense, the former Huddersfield Town defender was winning duals in the air and on the ground. Much more like the player the fans expected to see when signing.

Reading Chronicle:

Nesta Guinness-Walker, 5: Made a costly error in the build-up to the Blades' winning goal, the youngster did okay on the whole in an even contest.

Jeff Hendrick, 5: A quiet game for the Newcastle loanee but kept things ticking over.

Tom McIntyre, 6: Got better as the game went on, winning some strong tackles and looking to start forward moves from deep.

Tom Ince, 6: Looked to be involved whenever possible, the top scorer saw a few chances go wide and crosses hitting the target. A busy evening, the end product just wasn't there.

Reading Chronicle:

Andy Carroll, 6: Dominated in the air and had some smart touches on the halfway line to set moves up. Was not given enough service in the box to take full advantage.

Shane Long, 6: A good evening from the veteran, linking up well with the other two forwards in the line. Did not have many chances himself to find the net.

Substitutions

Lucas Joao, 5: Was on for 15 minutes but hardly touched the ball. Made no impact.

Femi Azeez, 5: Same as Joao, could not get into the game during the closing stages.
