Berkshire resident Gareth Ainsworth has ended his 13-year association with Wycombe Wanderers to take up the managers position at former club Queens Park Rangers.

A former Sunday league player with Woodley United and Finchampstead, the 49-year-old has taken the Chairboys from League Two to the Championship since taking over in 2012- although he had caretaker spells from as early as 2009.

An EFL veteran with almost 600 career appearances, he spent seven years at Loftus Road as a player, making over 150 appearances.

Linked with the hotseat at the SCL Stadium on various occasions, he has signed a xxx deal in West London, becoming their third manager of the season after Michael Beale and Neil Critchley.

Directly below the Royals in 17th, the R's have won once in 13 matches and have slipped from play-off contenders to eight points above the relegation zone.

His first fixture will be against boyhood club Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Reading Chronicle:

Former Chairboys favourite Matt Bloomfield, with over 550 appearances in a 17-year spell at the club, is expected to takeover from Ainsworth at Adams Park.

The former midfielder won League Two Manager of the Month with Colcester United for January, moving away from relegation danger.
