Reading conceded in the last minute to lose 1-0 at struggling Cardiff City.

Here are the player ratings.

Joe Lumley, 6: Kept very busy throughout, the on-loan Middesbrough keeper could do nothing about the deflected strike that won the game late on.

Junior Hoilett, 6: Another tough game for the out-of-position wing-back, with defending seemingly the order of the day. Unable to truly show his attacking threat, he whipped in some dangerous crosses when given the chance.

Amadou Mbengue, 6: Covered well and looking reasonably comfortable, minus the poor pass which almost let in Kion Etete.

Scott Dann, 6: A rare start for the veteran, and it showed early on. Took a while to get into the pace of the game, picking up a silly booking in the first half. Grew into the game defensively and made some important blocks.

Naby Sarr, 6: Put his head in the way of everything, but distribution left lots to be desired.

Nesta Guinness-Walker, 6: Earned his start after a good cameo in midweek but was not at his best in Wales. Looked to get forward where possible but got caught defensively on occasion.

Tom McIntyre, 6: Deployed in front of the back five again, he broke things up okay and played some clever passes, but the midfield struggled to get a foot on the ball throughout.

Mamadou Loum, 5: Picked up yet another silly booking on his return from suspension and lost possession needlessly fairly regularly. Not the impact Paul Ince would have hoped for after two matches sitting out.

Tyrese Fornah, 5: The match-winning hero in midweek, the game seemed to pass the youngster by for the most-part.

Andy Carroll, 7: Did his job of winning every dual in the air, but nobody gambled enough and the chances rarely came. Did his job in the defensive box well too.

Femi Azeez, 6: Looked to run off of Carroll where possible but not on a consistent basis and the balls were not falling for the youngster. Full of endeavour and pace which will damage teams in the future.

Yakou Meite, 6: Hardly impacted the game, but arguably saw the best chance when goalkeeper Ryan Allsopp slipped in his penalty box after being pressured by the Ivorian, only for the ball to be scrambled clear.

Tom Ince, 6: Hardly saw the ball and had to make do with creating chances from set-pieces. Did not really have much time to get into the rhythm of the clash.
