On this day in 2022, Reading battled to a 0-0 draw with Peterborough United.

A battle between 21st and 22nd, there was a storm across the UK- and a bigger one hanging over RG2.

After the fan protests just days before in the 150th celebration match, which ended in defeat to Coventry City, supporters confronted the team coach at the end of the match in Cambridgeshire.

A first point in eight matches- which was backed up with a win a few days later in what would be Veljko Paunovic's final match- it marked the 31st match of the Championship season.

12 months on, the Royals are 18 points better off under Paul Ince- still 12 points even if you take off the six point deduction.

Had this tally been put together this time around, Reading would be sat second from bottom- not in 21st as they were last season.

Interestingly, Veljko Paunovic's side had hit 36 goals by this point in 2022, one more than Ince's side have this time around.

The Royals had 16 different goal scorers, with John Swift top-scoring with nine by February, while this year Tom Ince is ahead of the rest with seven goals and a total of 12 players have contributed.

The major difference was in the goals against column, with a whopping 55 being conceded in 31 matches.

Letting in three or more on 10 occasions by mid-February, the side went on to become the joint-worst defence in the league with 87 in the goals against category.

Despite shoring up the backline this year, only two teams have conceded more at this stage's 46.

Paunovic's side only earned four clean sheets in the first 31 matches- three less than Ince has managed this time around.

Reading Chronicle:

Using extrapolation, the current side are on track to concede 68 this time out- almost 20 fewer than the 2021/22 campaign.

The 0-0 draw marked a turning point in Berkshire, with Ince in charge within a week and the club battling to survival.

12 months on, the club seem in a much-better state than they were in during the Great Storm of 2022.
