Reading boss Paul Ince admits it will be 'strange' to have a match involving VAR.

A controversial topic in football, the Video Assistant Referee is currently only in use at Premier League and European football level, and will be the first match involving the Royals and VAR since their last trip to Old Trafford in 2019.

Having been on the receiving end of some dubious refereeing decisions in the Championship this campaign, the former England captain is all for technology, but insists he is not happy it is involved in the FA Cup.

"I disagree with VAR in the FA Cup because I don’t think everyone is on a level playing field. I don’t think you can have it at one ground and not at another. We Championship teams can’t have VAR at grounds at the moment. If you can have VAR everywhere then have it, if not then don’t have it. Some of the decisions that cost games with VAR.  For me it will be strange. We’re not used to being stop-start and was it onside. That stops the momentum in the game. I understand it is here to stay but for FA Cup games you either have it for everyone or you don’t.

Reading Chronicle:

"We’re looking into it. I think we’re going to try it next season in little parts. It’s about how many cameras you can get around the stadiums and how much it is going to cost- so it’s a financial thing. I think the Championship is so important, it’s probably the toughest league in Europe. Decisions cost you going into the Premier League. I understand we have it for the play-offs, I don’t understand why we can’t have it indefinitely. Christ they’ve got it in Scotland. We should be having it in the Championship by now."
