2012 Championship winner Jem Karacan announced his retirement yesterday aged 33.

Of every player to have featured for the Royals in the successful campaign, 11 years on, only 10 are still playing professional football.

Take a look at them all below.

Reading Chronicle:

Alex Pearce- AFC Wimbledon

2011/12 Player of the Season, Pearce played in each of the 46 matches that campaign as Brian McDermott's team won the title.

Remaining at the club until 2015, the Republic of Ireland international left with 240 appearances to join Derby County.

Playing another 60 plus times for Millwall, becoming club captain in the process, the 34-year-old joined Wimbledon in the summer and has featured 14 times for the Dons in League Two.

Reading Chronicle:

Adam Le Fondre- Sydney FC

Another regular that season, although mostly from the bench, 'Alfie' was the top scorer in each of his three seasons in Berkshire.

Famously hitting 12 goals in the Premier League, the former Rotherham United and Stockport County scorer left in 2014 having scored an impressive 41 goals in 110 appearances.

Popular with Bolton Wanderers for his time in Lancashire, he has struck 62 goals in 111 appearances for Sydney.

Reading Chronicle:

Alex McCarthy- Southampton

Making just one League Cup appearance in 2011/12, he would become a mainstay at the back-end of 2012/13 and the number one for 2013/14, departing with 75 appearances to his name.

Having short spells at QPR and Crystal Palace, Southampton has been his home since 2016, racking up 131 appearances for the Saints.

Not always the number one, the former England international has not dropped outside the Premier League for almost a decade.

Reading Chronicle:

Sean Morrison- Rotherham United

Another who's impact with Reading would come after 2011/12, with the centre-back making just one appearances for the club that season, the 32-year-old sent the campaign on loan with Huddersfield Town.

Leaving after just 45 appearances, Cardiff City spent a reported £3m on the defender and he would remain in the Welsh capital for eight years.

295 matches later, he was released and has joined Rotherham United this month.

Reading Chronicle:

Michail Antonio- West Ham United

Picked up from non-league Tooting and Mitcham in 2008, the raw winger scored once in 33 appearances, as well as being sent out on four loan stints.

Joining Sheffield Wednesday permanently in 2012, he impressed at Hillsborough and did the same in a short spell with Nootingham Forest.

The Hammers paid £7m for the star in 2015 and he has gone on to become key for the East London club, playing 254 times in the last eight years.

Reading Chronicle:

Jordan Obita- Wycombe Wanderers

An Academy graduate who made his debut as a 16-year-old in 2010, the winger played twice in 2011/12 as well as having three loan spells to Barnet, Gillingham and Portsmouth.

Becoming a regular from 2013/14, Obita played 191 times for the club until 2020, when he was released.

Moving to his hometown club, Oxford United, for the first half of 2020/21, he has been a regular with the Chairboys since his January 2021 arrival.

Reading Chronicle:

Shane Long- Reading

Coming across from Ireland in 2005, Long was pivotal in the record-breaking 2005/06 season.

Remaining in Berkshire until 2011, he played once in 2011/12 until being sold to West Brom.

Remaining in the Premier League, predominantly with Southampton, until summer 2022, he returned to RG2 ahead of the current season.

Lawson D'Ath- Yeovil Town

Another Academy graduate, the midfielder made his only Royals start in the FA Cup defeat to Stevenage in January 2012.

Leaving permanently in 2014, the two-time promotion winner became a regular for Northampton Town, as well as enjoying spells with Luton Town and MK Dons.

Still only 30, he is currently in his third spell with the Glovers, trying to help them get out of the National League.

Tomasz Cywka- Lech Pozman II

The former Poland Under-21 international was put on the transfer list from Derby County in January 2012 and McDermott picked the striker up on a free transfer.

Despite not scoring for the club, the centre-forward impressed in his four starts, earning himself a medal.

Deciding not to keep him on in the Premier League, the striker has played for eight clubs in the last nine years, most notably for Barnsley and Wisla Krakow.

Reading Chronicle:

Benik Afobe- Hatta

Only a teenager when joining the Royals on loan from Arsenal in March 2012, the striker played three times during the run-in.

Leaving the Emirates for good in 2015, the forward went on to have a highly-respectable career for the likes of Wolves, Bournemouth and Stoke City.

Leaving the Den this month, the DR Congo international is now playing in United Arab Emirates First Division.
