Reading boss Paul Ince has shut down any truth in rumours linking the club with stars, admitting there is no room for new players currently.

In the last week, Liverpool midfielder Leighton Clarkson and Norwich City striker Jordan Hugill have been linked with moves to Berkshire, but Ince denies any truth.

With 25 men in their squad, the limit due to the ongoing transfer embargo, it would take outgoings before any came in.

Speaking on the chance of any incomings, the former England captain said: "We can't bring anyone in. We have got 25 players - that is our quota - the only way we can change that is if we get players out. No one is going out at the moment so no one is coming in. If we can free up a couple of spots, then great, if not then we go with what we've got.

"But my phone doesn't stop ringing and it's tough because you're thinking a new player might make us a better team or make us stronger but you have your hands tied behind your back. I'm talking to these agents but I'm thinking why am I bothering because I can't do anything. It kills you as a manager because you know this player could make us better.

"Clubs are getting stronger in January - Hull have spent a few quid - and you see other players going to Championship clubs but we can't do anything. That is down to us as a club - that's our punishment and something we have to get on with.

"What the 25 players have given me has been great. Everyone is back fit barring Liam Moore and I wouldn't change them for the world, but as manager I'd like to bring in one or two faces because it just lifts the building. But we go with what we've got and I am pleased with what we've got."
