For the first time ever, Reading had multiple World Cup representatives out in Qatar.

Unfortunately two of the three, Junior Hoilett and Baba Rahman, exited the competition at the group stage, while Mamadou Loum's Senegal were knocked out by England on Sunday in the Last 16.

Below, we take a look at their tournaments as they begin to return to Berkshire ahead of resuming the Championship campaign.

Junior Hoilett- B

A key man for Canada, who made his 50th appearance in the game immediately prior to the start of the tournament, the winger was a constant danger.

Featuring in all three matches, he came in for plenty of praise in the 2026 co-hosts opening defeat to Belgium, in which Canada missed a penalty which would have given them a first-half lead.

Although they lost all three fixtures, they made history when they scored against Croatia, their first in the history of the tournament, and even bagged a second in defeat to Morocco.

So despite coming away with three defeats in three, the Canucks left with their heads held high.

Hoilett, a key player under Paul Ince in Berkshire, will look to continue his fine form across 2022/23 when he returns to second tier action.

Baba Rahman- C

Another history maker, Ghana left-back Rahman became the first Royal to pick up a goal contribution at the World Cup- sending in a wicked delivery for Osman Bukari to head past Portugal in stoppage time of a 3-2 defeat.

Playing the final stages of a 3-2 win over South Korea, the wing-back was recalled for the crunch game against Uruguay, which they lost, to send them out at the first phase.

A regular for Reading, the Chelsea defender will hope to push on after showing he is capable of perfoming on the world stage.

Mamadou Loum- n/a

Someone who has played almost every week for Reading since his arrival, unfortunately Loum failed to register a minute on the pitch as the African Cup of Nations champions reached the Last 16 before being knocked out by England.

Still only 25, there is potential for the midfielder to push on and make an impact for 2026 if he continues to produce at club level.
