Saturday's 2-1 win over Hull City marked Paul Ince's 36th match in charge of Reading.

Arriving originally as interim boss in February, the England and Manchester United legend signed a permanent contract over the summer to remain in Berkshire.

Keeping the club in the Championship last season was his task, achieving the aim with two matches to spare, while this season was again tipped to be a struggle.

So far, as we go into a four-week break for the World Cup, the Royals are sat in 12th, with nine wins from the opening 22 fixtures.

But how does the former Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool manager compare with gaffers of old?

Reading Chronicle:

Actually, probably about par.

Despite the ocassional 4-0 thrashing, Ince has won 13 of his first 36 matches in charge- only one less than Alan Pardew after the same amount of matches and more than Steve Clarke or Nigel Adkins.

Brendan Rodgers, Brian McDermott 2.0 and Brendan Rodgers never made it to 36 matches and so were not weighed against.

Interestingly, current Head of Football Operations Mark Bowen, who was in charge for most of the 2019/20 campaign, had a win percentage of 39 per cent with an extra win than Ince.

In comparison, after 36 matches, McDermott during his first spell, Veljko Paunovic and Jaap Stam had the highest win percentages with 47.

Reading Chronicle:

Pardew, Steve Coppell, McDermott and Stam are the only managers of the 21st century with a win percentage higher than 40 per cent over their entire tenures.

Clement and Rodgers, with 23 and 26 per cent respectively, are the lowest.

In terms of Ince's managerial record, which stretches back to Macclesfield Town in 2006, his best success came with MK Dons over two spells.

The first spell, which saw him win League Two and the EFL Trophy, yielded a 60 per cent win record.

After disappointmnet at Premier League Blackburn Rovers, he returned to MK and had another 40 per cent win record.

His total record, over seven jobs and more than 200 matches, came to 40 per cent.
