Reading conceded in each half to lose 2-0 to Watford at Vicarage Road.

Here are the player ratings.

Joe Lumley, 6: Could do nothing about conceding the penalty, the keeper had a solid half hour performance until picking up an injury after making a good save. Will be a miss for Hull City on Saturday.

Reading Chronicle:

Andy Yiadom, 6: Back to playing his natural right-back position, the captain handled Isamaila Sarr well enough for him to have minimal involvement in the attacks.

Tom Holmes, 5: Poor performance from the vice-captain, who was bullied by Kienan Davies for most of the evening. Distribution off key and dispossessed on occasion. Hopefully a one-off in an otherwise good season.

Amadou Mbengue, 5: Similar to Holmes, nothing was coming off for the youngster. Stray passes and regularly dispossessed, not the performanced we've come to expect since his arrival.

Baba Rahman, 6: The stronger of the full-backs, the Chelsea loanee was trying to support his winger in attack. Linking up well with Ovie Ejaria, he received less support in the other direction.

Sam Hutchinson, 6: His first game for over a month and did what was expected of him. As always, broke up the play well and made some smart passes, good to have him back.

Reading Chronicle:

Jeff Hendrick, 5: Similar to a lot of his appearances, his energy is commendable- but he does not impact the game massively. Had a half-chance he thrashed wide.

Tyrese Fornah, 6: A bright game for the youngster, he drove where possible and tracked back well. Held onto the ball for too long on occasion, but he is still learning.

Tom Ince, 6: Very quiet game for the talisman, who was much wider than usual. Looked to make something happen but did not received the ball often enough in areas to make a difference.

Ovie Ejaria, 4: Gave away a silly penalty early on and failed to make up for it throughout the game. The Ovie of old, with magic in his feet, is well and truly gone. Whatever he attempted failed, and he often gives up attempting skills after a period of time in which they don't work.

Lucas Joao, 5: Showed signs of energy and determination, but never received the ball enough to do any damange. One shot on target in the 90 minutes tells its own story.

Reading Chronicle:

Substitutes

Dean Bouzanis, 6: Little he could do with the goal he conceded, the Aussie did what was expected of him. He will be required again on Saturday, with Joe Lumley out for four weeks.

Mamadou Loum, 5: Never impacted the game when he came on, but a steady presence in midfield.

Yakou Meite, 6: Charged down some poor backpasses but nothing came off them. Added some physicality and energy to the front line.

Andy Carroll, 5: Hardly touched the ball after coming on. Too little, too late.
