Reading were cruelly denied a positive result at the home of league leaders Burnley, conceding a stoppage time goal after being denied a penalty at the other end.
Here are the player ratings.
Joe Lumley, 7: The shot stopper didn't have much to do, with the hosts not having a shot on target in the first half. Making one crucial save in the second half, there was little he could do with either goals conceded.
Amadou Mbengue, 6: Started at wing-back and looked solid enough. Was beaten regularly by Anass Zaroury but always tracked back to prevent anything serious. Could do with work on his throw-ins, giving away two foul throws.
Andy Yiadom, 7: Threw his body in the way of everything, the captain returned to the side like he had never been away.
Tom Holmes, 8: An imperious performance, the vice-captain was a real stand-out at the back. Requiring lots of defending, the Academy graduate oozed composure.
Tom McIntyre, 7: Only played the first half hour, he had to go off after taking a shot to the side of the head and suffering a migraine. Did everything that was expected of him.
Baba Rahman, 6: Struggled on occasion against his winger, he let too many crosses into the box, which lead to the downfall. Tried to support going forward as much as possible.
Mamadou Loum, 7: A composed performance from the midfield, he broke the game up well. Could still do with releasing the ball sooner and passing more accurately.
Jeff Hendrick, 7: Kept everything ticking over in the middle and played the ocassional difficult pass.
Ovie Ejaria, 7: Back for his first start since August, not every skill worked but looked to make something happen. Good to have a progressive midfielder rather than more defensive ones.
Tom Ince, 8: A constant threat, the former Derby County star ran Burnley ragged. Took his goal very well and should have earned a final second penalty.
Yakou Meite, 7: Imperious up front, winning every battle and giving Clarets' defenders something to think about. Key in the current system.
Substitute:
Junior Hoilett, 7: Lost his man for a goal, the wing-back did not take long to feel his way into the game.
Tyrese Fornah, 6: Struggled to make an impact on the game, the youngster is being managed by Paul Ince during his first campaign at Championship level.
Shane Long, 6: Solid cameo from the fan favourite, made a nuisance of himself but had little in the way of goalmouth action.
